Jerry Thomas Edwards

Jerry Thomas Edwards, 78, passed away peacefully Wednesday December 6, 2023 at Portside Assisted Living in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He was born on April 20, 1945 in Henderson, North Carolina to the late Thomas Allen Edwards & Estelle Rebecca Wilder Edwards. Along with his parents, Jerry is reunited in passing with his son, Michael Lance Edwards; brother, Stanley Thomas Edwards; & sister, Judith Faye Edwards. Jerry proudly served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam conflict. While enlisted, Jerry was a member of the 4th Infantry Division and was the recipient of a Bronze Star with V Device for Acts of Valor in combat and for his dedicated service. Following his honorable discharge, Jerry went on to work for GTE, current day, Verizon. Jerry proudly climbed the ranks and worked hard to retire as the Budget Administrator- overseeing both North and South Carolina. Upon Jerry’s well-deserved retirement, he was able to enjoy more time with his family and friends. In his free time, Jerry relished time spent making memories with family and friends. He was a Christian and member of Forestbrook Baptist Church. He will be deeply missed. Left to cherish Jerry’s memory are his adoring wife of over 58 years, Judith Tunstall Edwards of Myrtle Beach; son, Jeffrey Allen Edwards and wife, Carrie of Myrtle Beach; daughter, Laurie Edwards Pace and husband, Ryan of Bessemer City, NC; his beloved grandchildren, Nicholas Ryan Pace, Christian Allan Edwards, Jessica Lynette Edwards & Thomas Earl Maddry, III; sister, Estelle Rebecca Harris of Henderson, NC; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins; a large, loving extended family and many supportive friends and neighbors. A graveside Celebration of Jerry’s life with full Military Honors will be held at New Sandy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, 1699 Weldons Mill Rd, Henderson, NC 27537, held on Sunday, December 17th at 2:00 p.m. At the request of the family, please consider memorial contributions in lieu of flowers.
