Jerry Macon Garrett, 75, of Henderson, NC passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at 5pm on July 7th, 2026 at Maria Parham Medical Center. Jerry entered this world on June 17th. 1951 as the youngest of 5 children. From birth, until his passing, Jerry spoke with great affection about his brothers and sister and their extended families.
Jerry loved the game of golf and was a proud member of the United States Golf Association. Some of his greatest days were spent playing golf with his family and friends at Kerr Lake Country Club and South Granville Country Club. Jerry believed golf to be the ultimate “gentleman’s game” and took great pride that his only son, Chase Garrett, became an accomplished amateur golfer in Indiana.
Jerry was also a pioneer of the Opticianry trade in North Carolina and served multiple years as President of the North Carolina Opticians Association. It was a great point of pride for Jerry that his only daughter, Linsey, followed in his career path to become a Licensed Optician and current President of the North Carolina Opticians Association.
Jerry worked hard his entire life to support his family. He was a true “man’s man” in every sense of the phrase. From his childhood, to the end of his days on earth, Jerry viewed the world with a child-like enthusiasm and always found ways to make the people around him smile and laugh. To the Garrett family, Jerry was the one most responsible for bringing the family together for special occasions. It was only appropriate that, in his final days, he inspired his family to rally together one last time to tend to his care. He took great comfort in the company of his family until the very end.
The memories that Jerry created with the family he loved and the friends he admired will remain a constant source of enduring love through the ages.
According to his wishes, a private celebration of his life will be held at a time and place to be determined.
