Jerry Dean Thomas, Sr.

OXFORD- Jerry Dean Thomas, Sr., 81, of Burnside Road, died Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC. Born September 20, 1944 in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late June Gouge Thomas and Jeter James Thomas. Jerry retired from Camp Butner where he was the facility maintenance supervisor. He was a Veteran of the North Carolina National Guard, retiring after serving for more than 30 years. He was a member of Dexter Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. at Dexter Baptist Church by Rev. Wayne Clark. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Rachel Bagbey Thomas of the home; a son, Jerry Dean Thomas, Jr.; two daughters, Kathy Thomas Kyle (Byron) and Sharon Thomas Matthews (Jesse); three grandchildren, Shawn Thomas Matthews (Bailey), Joshua Thomas Kyle and Kalyn Nicole Kyle; four nephews, Mike Thomas, Chad Thomas, Brad Thomas and Jason Thomas; two nieces, Jennifer Boone and Jessica Renn; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, James Thomas and Jessie Thomas; and a nephew, Christopher Thomas.

The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at J.M. White Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
