HENDERSON-Jewel Wells Clayton, age 82, a resident of 320 Allen Road, died Monday, June 07, 2010, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.She was born in Vance County on September 7, 1927, and was the daughter of the late Guy Polk Wells and Helen Elizabeth Reavis Wells.
Mrs. Clayton was a graduate of Dabney High School, and was a retired from Belk Department Store and was formerly employed with Roses Stores Inc.
She was a member of City Road United Methodist Church, and was a longtime volunteer at Maria Parham Medical Center.
A graveside service will be heldThursday at 11:00 am at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Dan Baer.
She is survived by one son, Harold Wayne Farmer Clayton of Henderson; one brother, Robert Guy Bobby Wells and wife, Patsy, of Henderson; three sisters, Martha W. Roberson of Greenville, N. C., Edith W. Bittick of Henderson, and Ruby W. Sledge and husband, Bill, of Pinehurst.She was preceded in death by one son, Gregory Wells Clayton.
The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 7:00 until 8:30 pm at J. M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of Wayne Clayton, 913 Flemingtown Rd.
