Jimmy Gordon Adams, age 76, a resident of 731 Lakeview Drive passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2018, at Duke University Hospital. Born on March 2, 1941, in Vance County, he was the son of the late Raymond Alexander Adams and Edith Breedlove Adams, and was the widower of Aline Thompson Adams.
Jimmy was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving from 1966 to 1970 including a tour in Vietnam and left the service with a rank of Captain. He was the owner of Citizens Insurance Agency and later was employed with Joel T. Cheatham Insurance Agency. He was actively involved with the Henderson Rec Players and the Granville Little Theater. He was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for A.C.T.S, and for the last 21 years was Santa at Dabney Elementary School. He was a member of City Road United Methodist Church serving as Choir Director, Sunday School Teacher and was a Certified Lay Speaker.
Memorial services with Military Honors will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 21, 2018, at City Road United Methodist Church by Pastor Edgar Vergara and Rev. Dan Baer.
He is survived by two sons, Donald R. Adams (Tracey) and Jimmy G. Adams, Jr. (Jennie) all of Henderson; one daughter, Edie Adams Cantagallo of Lake Worth, FL; 11 grandchildren, Robin Matthews, Alexander Adams, Amber Adams, Joshua Adams, Jonathan Adams, C.J. Heaterly, Joseph Cantagallo, Felicia Cantagallo, Robert Cantagallo, Jimmy G. Adams, III, Leanne Adams; and one brother, Raymond Alexander Adams, Jr. of Williamsburg, Virginia. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Iris Adams Williams, and one son-in-law, John Joseph Cantagallo.
The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 7 until 8:30 pm at J. M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home at 731 Lakeview Drive.
