Joan Davis Ayscue, 76, of Wildwood Lane, died Sunday, June 20, 2021 at Duke University Medical Center.Born in Vance County on April 20, 1945, she was the daughter of the late John Hoyle Davis and Lillian Fleming Davis.She was retired from Com-Fo Hosiery Mills where she worked as bookkeeper and secretary.Joan was a member of West End Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher for the Young Couples Class, a W.M.U. leader and served as mentor for the Women's Prison Retreat Ministry.She was actively involved in the JOY Club Ministry and Embrace Henderson Ministry for Vance County.She participated in multiple mission trips to Honduras and Chile and always said we are missionaries wherever God plants us.She faithfully lived out the Great Commission and her sweet smile radiated her love for God.Her greatest desire was for people to know Jesus as Savior.
A graveside memorial service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 AM at Sunset Gardens Cemetery by Dr. Richard Walker.
Joan is survived by husband of 58 years, Jerry Arnold Ayscue of the home; three sons, Jerry A. "Jay" Ayscue, Jr. and wife Angie of Henderson; Justin D. Ayscue and wife, Amy of Oxford; and Jeffrey S. Ayscue and wife, Cyndi of Henderson; six grandchildren, Katie Ayscue, Remy Ayscue, Megan Ayscue, Josh Ayscue, Ethan Ayscue and Emily Mustian; two sisters, Nancy D. Morton of Swansboro and Susan D. Barnett of Franklin, TN; and two brothers, Russ Davis of Swansboro and Scott Davis of Henderson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant brother, Johnny Davis.
The family will receive friends following the service at Sunset Gardens.
