OXFORD- JoAn Davis Burroughs Winston, 88, of Maluli Drive, died Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at a local nursing home. Born June 11, 1937 in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Mabel Roberson Davis and Joseph Jordan Davis and was the widow of James Pratt Winston and Ernest Woodward Boyette, Jr. JoAn earned her Master of Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the American Association of University Women. She was a teacher for over 40 years, having taught in the Winston Salem and Greensboro Public Schools as well as locally at E.M. Rollins Elementary and Kerr-Vance Academy. She was also a member of First Baptist Church Henderson. A memorial service will be held Friday, June 20, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. at First Baptist Church Henderson by Dr. Ronald S. Cava. Interment will follow at Grassy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. JoAn is survived by her sister, Nancy Davis Short (William) of Laurinburg; a step-daughter, Kathryn Winston (J.R. Richardson) of Southport; two step-sons, John Lee Winston (Anna) of Emerald Isle and Francis Allen Winston (Tammy) of Bullock; 12 step-grandchildren; and 15 step-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husbands, she was preceded in death by a nephew, Gregory Davis Short and a step-son, James Pratt Winston, II. The family will receive friends at the home, 100 Maluli Drive, Oxford from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Thursday evening and prior to the service in the fellowship hall of First Baptist Church Henderson at 10:00 A.M. on Friday.
