John Brewer Baity

John graduated from Henderson High School in 1944 and went to NC State University from 1944 till 1945 and he entered the ASTRP (Army Reserves) during WWII. In 1945, he was stationed at Camp Gordon, GA for Basic Training and at Clemson in the Army Specialized Advance Program for 3 months prior to his overseas duty in Miramus, France and Frankfurt, Germany where he served as a pharmacy technician.After his stint in the Army, John attended UNC from 1947 till graduation in 1949 earning a BS in chemistry.He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon and Phi Beta Kappa fraternities.
John married Canella Beckwith Baity on August 19, 1950.She preceded him in death in 2002.When they got married, John was employed by DuPont, in Richmond, VA, in their Rayon research division and was later Quality Control Supervisor in the nylon manufacturing department in Chattanooga, TN.In 1959, John and Canella moved back to Henderson, where he was the owner/operator of Soft Spun Knitting Mills.John was a long standing member of the First Baptist Church and the Henderson Rotary Club.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church Henderson, conducted by Dr. Marion D. Lark and Dr. Ronald S. Cava.Burial with military honors will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
He is survived by two sons, John Brewer Baity, Jr. and wife, Lee Anne Cawthorne Baity of the home and Coy Beckwith Beck Baity and wife, Lindley Stroud Baity of Raleigh; a sister, Jessie Hayes Baity Hartnett of Bennettsville, SC; two granddaughters, Amanda Frances Baity of Greenville and Ashlyn Elizabeth Baity of Raleigh; and a grandson, Jordon Beckwith Baity of Greenville.
In addition to his parents and his wife, John was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Mitchell Baity Bickers and Martha Tannahill Baity Elliott.
The family will receive friends Friday evening at J.M. White Funeral Home from 7- 8:30 pm.At other times they will be at the home, 815 Meadow Lane.
Serving as active pall bearers will be George C. Allen, James G. Beck, Robert K. Catherwood, Charles W. Finch, Robert L. Hubbard, Sr.,and Greg Griggs.
Honorary pall bearers will be members of the Henderson Rotary Club.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions in Johns memory be made to the First Baptist Church, Adult Choir Fund, PO Box 75, Henderson, NC 27536 or the Henderson Rotary Club, PO Box 1869, Henderson, NC 27536.The family wishes to express thanks to Rose Parker and the staff of Kerr Lake Nursing and Rehab, especially Lynn Menikos and Rebecca Bowden.
