HENDERSON-John Thomas Bennett, age 84, a resident of Stagecoach Road, died Tuesday, October 04, 2016, at his home.Born in Vance County on June 17, 1932 he was the son of the late John Landon and Beuna Matthews Bennett.Mr. Bennett was a member of Island Creek Baptist Church and the G. W. Norwood Sunday School Class. He was a former deacon and served on numerous church committees.He was a Veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War and was a charter member of the Hicksboro Volunteer Fire Department.As the owner and operator of Bennetts Welding and Repair he served his customers for over 30 years.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 PM at Island Creek Baptist Church by Rev. Marshall Neathery and Rev. John Yount.Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Bennett is survived by his wife of 63 years, Charlotte Brooks Bennett of the home; two sons, John Thomas Bennett, Jr and Ronald Earl Bennett and wife, Cindy all of Henderson; granddaughters, Lauren and Kayley; grandson, Jared; step granddaughter, Ashlynn and husband, Jeffrey Caines; a great-grandson, Benjamin Caines; his sister, Ellen B. Hughes and husband, Dennis P. Hughes of Garner; and a brother, Clifton Bennett and wife, Marilyn of Henderson.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Bennett of Georgia.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7:00 till 8:30 at J.M. White Funeral Home.At other times they will be at the home, 3300 Stagecoach Road.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Bobby Norwood, Norman Crowder, Bob Morgan, John Rice, Jerry Boyd, James Hobgood, Bill Satterwhite, Charles Wyche, Donnie Hogge and Randy Riggan.Honorary pallbearers will be members of the G.W. Norwood Sunday School Class and John Bunch, Bruce Stainback, Bobby Elmore, Wayne Pendergrass, Tempe Forbes, Kenny Forbes, Tom Howell, Linwood Green, Rodney Stainback, Rodney Dickerson, Jamie Morgan and Tracey Morgan.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Island Creek Baptist Church Baptist Men, 950 Stagecoach Road, Henderson, NC 27537.
