NORLINA-John Karney Faulk, age 91, a resident of Senior Citizens and formerly of Norlina, died Monday, July 06, 2015.He was born July 23, 1923 in Mason, TN toHubert Grey Faulk and Effie Patrick Faulk.Mr. Faulk was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Frances Newman Faulk.
Johnny volunteered to serve his country in the US Army in January of 1943.During World War II he served in the European Theater during the Battle of the Bulge for which he was awarded two Bronze Battle Stars and the Purple Heart for his wounds received in Normandy.He was discharged to the Army Hospital in Camp Butner, NC, where he met Frances who was a volunteer and they were married in September 1945.
Throughout most of his life he was involved in mining and heavy construction.He worked to build John H. Kerr Dam from beginning to end, for the Tungsten Mine, building bridges for J. Lawson Jones Construction, and for Brown and Root Construction, Inc. from which he retired in December 1985.
Johnny loved hunting and fishing and was an avid fan of UNC Tar Heels basketball and Atlanta Braves baseball.He was always proud to call Norlina home and enjoyed telling stories of his years in the Norlina Volunteer Fire Department.He and Frances loved to dance and were known for their grace on the dance floor and for making delicious Brunswick stew.
Johnny was a member of Norlina United Methodist Church where his funeral will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM by Rev. Dr. Roderic L. Mullen and Rev. Gary Brummitt.Burial with military honors will follow in Warrendale Cemetery in Norlina.
He is survived by one daughter, Karney Faulk Brantley of Henderson; his grandson and wife, Patrick Scott and Christy Woodlief Brantley of Henderson; and two great grandsons, Noah Patrick and Adam Mitchell Brantley of Henderson who were his pride and joy.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Elizabeth Faulk, Gerald Faulk, Murrell Keel, Shelby Faulk and Lawrence Faulk.
The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall prior to the service on Wednesday from 10:00 AM till 11:00 AM. At other times they will be at the home of his daughter, 110 Westlake Drive, Henderson, NC 27536.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Barry Newman, Bailey Barker, Woody Davis, Joe Falkner, Tim Hawks, Jimmy Overby, Ronald Rose and Tom Thompson.Honorary pallbearers will be Leon Barker, Billy Hawks, Jake Neville, Harry Pet Norvell, James White, J.P. Williams and members of the Mens Bible Class of Norlina Methodist Church.
