HENDERSONMr. John Madison Foster, age 76, of 215 Turner Lane, died Thursday, Aug.17, 2017, at UNC Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill. Born in Vance County on Jan. 21, 1941, he was the son of the late John Kitt Foster Jr. and Esther Robertson Foster. Johnny was a member of The Church of The Holy Innocents where he currently served on the Vestry.He was the owner of John Foster Homes and was in the retail housing/real estate industry for 50 years following his banking days.He was an avid Tarheel fan. Aside from his involvement in church and his business, he was very involved in his community and impacted the housing industry like no other. Over the decades he pioneered and then led the manufactured housing industry to reach monumental growth levels all the while serving on many boards and associations within the housing industry.Those included the North Carolina and National Association of Realtors and the Kerr Lake Board of Realtors of which he was a past president. In addition to these industry boards, his impact was felt on many community boards and within community associations for which he formerly served. Among those were the Vance-Granville Community College Board of Trustees, Vance County Chamber of Commerce, First Citizens Bank Board of Directors, North Carolina Jaycees, United Way, Vance County Red Cross and the Henderson Jaycees, of which he was a past president. Johnny currently served on the Board of Directors for the Vance County Economic Development Commission.Recreationally, he enjoyed his membership in the Henderson Country Club Gin Club.
A memorial service will be held today at 2 p.m. at The Church of The Holy Innocents by the Rev. Don Lowery and Darrell Mullinix Sr. Interment will follow in Liberty Christian Church Cemetery in Epsom.
Mr. Foster is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara Tanner Foster of the home; three daughters, Kim F. Brummitt and husband Samuel W. "Butch" Brummitt Jr., Karen F. Bobbitt and husband C. Ruxton Bobbitt Jr., and Tracy F. Williamson and husband Scottie W. Williamson; his brother, Macy A. Foster and wife Nancy W. Foster; six grandchildren, Jonathan G. Abbott, Madison K. Bobbitt, Clara W. Bobbitt, Margaret G. Bobbitt, Foster S. Williamson and Ann Lynne Williamson; andhis beloved dog, "Mickey".He was recently preceded in death by his beloved dog, "Molly."
The family will receive friends at the home, 215 Turner Lane, Henderson, NC 27537.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Darrell Mullinix Sr., Jim Johnson, Basil Asbury, Donald Seifert, Richard Whitten, Bobby Faulkner, Arnie Foster, Lee Foster and Luke Foster.
