KITTRELL- John Douglas “JD” Wilson, Sr., 95 of Frank Sneed Road, died Thursday, February 03, 2022 at his home after a period of declining health. Born May 27, 1926 in Halifax County near Littleton, he was the son of the late Nellie Dickens Wilson and Nathaniel Edward Wilson. He graduated from Littleton High School as Valedictorian in 1944 and attended N.C. State College from 1944-1948, graduating with honors and a B.S. in Vocational Education. He came to Kittrell in July 1948 and organized the first Vocation Agriculture Department at Zeb Vance High School. He taught agriculture and shop work to all the high school boys in addition to holding adult farmer classes at night during the winter months. He was also in charge of the Veteran’s Farmer Training Program with approximately 50 Veterans year around. In 1956 he earned his Master’s Degree from N.C. State College. In July of 1950 he married Eunice Shearin from Littleton and built their present home near Kittrell where they raised their four sons. In 1950 J.D. and Eunice moved their church membership from Littleton to Union Chapel United Methodist Church in Kittrell. There he served as Sunday School Superintendent for 15 years and taught the young adult class (later known as Union Bible Class) for approximately 20 years. He served as Chairman of the Board for many years and was in charge of the cemetery for more than 50 years and served on other varies committees. In 1960 he joined the Citizens Bank and Trust Co. of Henderson as Assistant Vice President in charge of the Trust Farms and advertising. During his 12 year with the bank he ran for County Commissioner from District 3 and won election for three 4 year terms. In 1972 J.D. formed a development company with John A. Rogers known as R & W Developers, Inc. They purchased land and built single family homes in the Kittrell area, namely Kittrell Estates and Lynnbank Estates. In 1973 J.D. joined the Kerr Lake Area Home Builders Association where was elected President and then served as their Executive Officer for 15 years until 1989. In 1990 J.D. got his Broker License and started doing business as Wilson Realty. His latest years have been spent in managing rental property in Vance Co. and Fayetteville. Mr. Wilson was a member of the former Zeb Vance Ruritan Club that was established in April,1956. He received a plaque for being the last living charter member, and in 2006 Millard Thacker, past President of Ruritan National presented J.D. the “Tom Downing Fellow Award”. “It is the highest award Ruritan National gives.” In the early 1960’s he lead a lot of the efforts for the Zeb Vance club to help with the construction of the Kittrell and Bearpond Volunteer Fire Departments. A graveside funeral service will be held Monday February 7, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. the Union Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery by Rev. Radford Frazier. J.D. is survived by four sons, Dale E. Wilson (Rosalie) of Henderson; Monte L. Wilson (Audrey) of Las Vegas, Macy Neal Wilson (Myra) and John D. Wilson, Jr. (Joann), all of Fayetteville; four grandchildren, Darrien Wilson, Christopher Wilson, Jeffrey Wilson, John D. Wilson, III; and he is also survived by numerous beloved nephews, nieces and close family friends. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one sister, Marie Wilson Stoupa. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be members of the former Zeb Vance Ruritan Club and the Union Chapel United Methodist Men. The family wishes to give special thanks for the great care and service of Dr. Matthew Higgins and Dr. Adrian Ogle as well as the staff of Community Home Care and Hospice, including Cayla, Shirley, Rachel, Serita and Tiffany. The family will receive friends Sunday night from 6:00 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. at J.M. White Funeral Home.
