HENDERSON - John Thomas McBride, 91, passed away on August 31, 2022. Born in Lexington, on August 9, 1931, to the late James and Lissie Tesh McBride, John was a graduate of Lexington High School and Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC. He served in the US Air Force for four years. John is survived by Doris Jones McBride, his wife of sixty-six years, his daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Fred Spicer of Highland Park, IL, by his sister-in-law Donese McBride and nieces and nephews. During his career John worked in textile machinery sales and in textile management. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, in Henderson; a past member of the Henderson Kiwanis Club, Director of the Vance County Red Cross, he was a former member of the Henderson Masonic Lodge 229 and Henderson Shrine Club, former director of Henderson Racers Unit and formerly served on the board of trustees for the Amran Temple. Doris and Kim fondly remember John as a loving and devoted husband and father, and a person who was always ready to help a neighbor or friend. No project was too big or too small for John to tackle. He always looked forward to his weekly breakfast outing with friends, both old and new. John enjoyed puttering in the yard and somehow always managed to prune the shrubs at the wrong time of the year. In accordance with John’s wishes, no service will be held. The family would like to extend special gratitude to the countless friends and neighbors who have provided their support during this time, and to Ruth Nelson and the staff at Kerr Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their support and loving care. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
