OXFORD- John Marshall Newton, Sr., 88, of Hicksboro Road, died Friday, May 16, 2025 at a local nursing home. Born April 25, 1937 in Vance County, he was the son of the late Mary Twisdale Newton and George Hailey Newton. He was a retired carpenter and member of Marrow’s Chapel Church. Funeral services will be held Friday May 23, 2025 at 11:00 AM by Rev. Tom Lamm and Rev. Johnny Yount at Marrow's Chapel Church. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. John is survived by his wife, Sarah Jean Abrams Newton of the home; a daughter, Mary Jean Hemmerle and husband, Steven of Hardeeville, SC; two sons, John Marshall Newton, Jr. of Spartanburg, SC and George Ferrin and wife, Ali of Dallas, TX; seven grandchildren, William Hemmerle and wife, Christi, Jennette Oliveri and husband, Chris, Kayla DeMarco, Joshua Newton, John Ferrin, Alex Ferrin and wife, Gabby, and Ashley Nabonne and husband, Patrick; three great grandchildren, Samantha Ferrin, Piper Nabonne and Adrieanna DeMarco; and two special nieces, Delores Jones and Betty Ann Jones. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Ann Hinton; and four brothers, George Hailey Newton, Jr., Jimmy Newton, Tom Newton and Donald Newton. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 6:30 until 8:00 P.M. at J.M. White Funeral Home and at other times they will be at the home. Serving as pallbearers will be John Marshall Newton, Jr., Steve Hemmerle, George Ferrin, William Hemmerle, Christopher Oliveri and David Jones.
