John Allen Rainey

HENDERSON- John Allen Rainey, 94, of Cameron Drive, died Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at his home. Born June 23, 1927 in Warren County, he was the son of the late Vernard Allen Rainey and Leafy King Rainey and the widower of Betty Wilson Rainey. John was a graduate of Henderson High School and received an associates degree from American University. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving in WWII. John was the owner and operator of City Tire, Inc. He assisted in the foundation of the NC Tire Dealers and Retreaders Association and was a member of the American Retreaders Association. He served as an advisory council board member and president for that association and in 2015 was inducted into the NC Tire Dealers Hall of Fame. Active in the community, John was a member of Henderson’s Downtown Merchants Association, former member of the Henderson Rotary Club, served as a leader for the Boy Scouts of America, where he was a member of the Loyal Order of the Arrow, and was a former Chairman of the Vance County School Board. He was a member of First United Methodist Church where he served in many leadership positions as well as a Sunday School teacher in the Fellowship Class. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 4:30 PM at First United Methodist Church by Rev. George Loveland. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Gardens. Mr. Rainey is survived by two daughters Patricia “Pat” R. Frazier and husband, Tommy, and Rebecca R. Aycock and husband, Kirby; two sons, Mike Rainey and wife, Anora, and Ray Rainey and wife, Jan, all of Henderson; six granddaughters, Jennifer R. Bowman and fiancé, Jon Adcock, Elizabeth F. Wilson and husband, Daniel, Katherine R. Anderson and husband, Greg, Amelia A. Hollis and husband, Jeremy, Kelsey Aycock and Rebekah Aycock; three grandsons, Matt Frazier and wife, Melissa, Bryan Rainey and wife, Nicole, and Ashton Rainey; and six great grandchildren, John, Thomas, Jackson, Wesley, Olivia and Bennett. In addition to parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Bobbie Jean Rainey; and three sisters, Ruth R. Newman, Louise R. Lotz and Vera R. Gatano. The family will receive friends Friday evening, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the home, 3412 Cameron Dr. ,Henderson, NC 27536. Serving as pallbearers will be Ashton Rainey, Bryan Rainey, Matt Frazier, Daniel Wilson, Greg Anderson, Jeremy Hollis, Josh Holt and Mike Nicholas. Honorary pallbearers will be his great grandsons, John Wilson, Jackson Anderson, Wesley Anderson, Thomas Wilson, and Bennett Frazier. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 114 Church Street, Henderson, NC 27536 or Community Home Care and Hospice, 946 West Andrews Ave., Henderson, NC 27536.
