OXFORD-John Daniel "Danny" Shockley, age 65, a resident of 2610 Burnside Road, died Tuesday, October 07, 2014, at his home.Born on April 9, 1949 in Salisbury, MD , he was the son of the late former Sheriff of Wicomico County, William "Bill" Shockley and Jeanette Johnson Shockley of Salisbury, MD.Dannyslaw enforcement career began in October 1975 in Fruitland, MD, then moved to the Princess Anne Police Department, the Delmar Police Department, and finally in May, 1986 to the Vance County Sheriffs Office until he retired as Captain in October 2003.
He was a member of Island Creek Baptist Church where funeral services will be held Friday at 11 by the Rev. Marshall Neathery and the Rev. Frank Sossamon.Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Tucker Shockley of the home; daughter, Rebecca Gail Dillon and husband, Michael of Quantico, MD; step-daughter, Cindy Woodard of Henderson; step-son, Michael Woodard and wife, Crystal of Henderson; brothers, Ralph Shockley and wife, Debbie of Salisbury, MD;and William E. Shockley, Jr. of Berlin, MD; six grandchildren, Rachel, Elizabeth, Tommy, and Alex Daniel, Olivia Burrows and Aurora Woodard all of Henderson; two special nephews, Mike Shockley and wife, Nicole and Chris Shockley and wife, Kara of Salisbury, MD; his special cousin, Dickie Brumbley of Salisbury, MD; six great nephews and nieces, Connor, Courtney, Caden, Kerigan, Kendall, and Karsyn Shockley all of Salisbury, MD.He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joyce Ann Coleman.
The family will receive friends Thursday night from 7 until 8:30 pm at J. M. White Funeral Home.At other times they will be at the home.
Serving as active pall bearers will be members of the Vance County Sheriffs Department. Serving as honorary pall bearers will be active and retired members of the Vance County Sheriffs Department.
Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 914, Henderson, NC27536.
Danny was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.He enjoyed hunting with his brother, nephews, great nephews, and grandchildren.
