HENDERSON-John Vance Short, age 80, a resident of 1210 Dabney Drive, died Thursday, July 04, 2013, at Hock Family Pavilion in Durham.Born on April 2, 1933 in Vance County, he was the son of the late Ollie Short and Katie Short Short.John was a Veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War.He was still an associat with WalMart where he was a former truck driver.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, July 6, 2013, at 11:00 AM at Sunset Gardens by the Rev. Frank Sossamon. He is survived by his wife, Helen Dickerson Short of the home; one brother Ollie Gray Short and wife, Mary of YoungsvilleIn addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William Short and Bennie Short; and one sister, Ola Short Stegall.
The family will receive friends on Saturday prior to the service from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at Sunset Gardens.At other times they will be at the home at 1210 Dabney Drive.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Duke Home Care & Hospice, 4321 Medical Park Drive, Durham, NC27704.
