HENDERSON- Joseph Leon Jarvis, Sr., 73, of Fox Pond died Friday, December 16, 2022. Born in Pasquotank County on October 8, 1949, he was the son of the late Dorothy Lee Peele Jarvis and Murl Randolph Jarvis. He was a retired truck driver and a member of Freedom Life Church of God. Aside from the great joy he felt while on the road, he loved being “Santa Claus” during the Christmas season until his health declined. He also enjoyed travelling to the mountains and fishing. A memorial service will be held Monday, January 2, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Freedom Life Church of God by Rev. Jeff Prewer. Leon is survived by his wife, Shelby Johnson Jarvis of the home; two daughters, Teresa Reynolds, and husband, Brian Seiwell of Fredricksburg, VA and Jennifer L. White and husband, Henry of Hertford; four sons, Joseph “Jody” L. Jarvis, Jr., and wife, Jessica of Columbia, Steve Turner and wife, Sheila of Conway, Kenny Wayne Turner and wife, Stephanie of Conway, and Jeffery Leon Jarvis and wife, April of Henderson; four sisters, Cora Reid of Elizabeth City, Ida Mae Finch of AL, Murriell McCulley of Farmville, VA, Becky Hoggard of Windsor; three brothers, Clifton Jarvis of Wilmington, Wayne Jarvis of MI, and Tim Jarvis of MO; 19 grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, William Randolph “Randy” Jarvis and two great grandchildren. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 12:00 PM on Monday, January 2nd at the church and at other times at the home, 61 Fox Pond Road, Henderson, NC 27537.
