Joseph Malcolm Sears, age 68, a resident of Kittrell, died Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at his home.Born in Wake County on April 12, 1944 he was the son of the late E.T. Buss Sears and Julia Nell Green Sears of Apex.He was a retired Command Sergeant Major with United States Army National Guard, First of the 130th Aviation Battalion. Joe was a member of Zeb Vance Ruritan Club and President of Kerr Lake Ministries.He also was a member of Plank Chapel United Methodist Church, served as Sunday School Superintendent and was a member of the Methodist Men.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 4:00 PM at Plank Chapel United Methodist Church by the Dr. Carolyn Roy and the Rev. Bud Budzinski.Burial with full Military Honors will follow in the church cemetery.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Susan Smith Sears of the home; his daughter, Martha Ann Sears of Selma; his son, Joseph Dudley Sears of Kittrell; two brothers, David Jackson Sears and Alan Thomas Sears both of Apex; and two granddaughters.
The family will receive friends prior to the service on Sunday from 2:30 till 3:30 PM at Plank Chapel United Methodist Church.At other times they will be at the home.
Serving as active pall bearers will be members of the Army National Guard Honor Guard.Honorary pall bearers will be the Methodist Men and members of the Zeb Vance Ruritan Club.
