Joseph Bryant Tharrington, age 70, a resident of 430 Tharrington Lane died Sunday, August 24, 2014 at Duke University Medial Center.Born on September 10, 1943 in Franklin County, he was the son of the late Grady Spencer Tharrington and Molly Harris Tharrington.He was a retired lieutenant with the Henderson Fire Department and an employee of J.M. White Funeral Home where he worked since 1969. Joe was a member of New Sandy Creek Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, and was a member of the Baptist Men, Ed Blue Sunday School Class and the Cullman Baptist Association. He was a member of the former Henderson Exchange Club where he served as president and on the board of directors.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at 11:00 AM at New Sandy Creek Baptist Church by Rev. Tim Burgess.Burial with full firemans honors will follow in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Wallace Tharrington of the home; one daughter, Joy Lynn T. Cobb (Dean) of Henderson; two sons, Richard G. Tharrington (Lisa) of Henderson and Joseph Kevin Tharrington (Denette) of Santa Maria, CA; nine grandchildren, AprilJamison (Katrina), Hope Lassiter (Brian), Joseph Cobb, Tyler Tharrington, Emily Cobb (Michael Atkinson), Zackery Tharrington, Jessica Tharrington, Zackary Mason, and Keeley Iverson; four great grandchildren, Savannah West, Drew West, Noah Jamison, and Graycen Jamison; three sisters, Beatrice Carter (C. J.) of Raleigh, Linda Cash (Alvis) of Butner, Sue Wheless (Danny) of Durham; three brothers, Charlie Tharrington (Kitty) of Durham, Bobby Tharrington (Lynn) of Louisburg, and Danny Tharrington (Sandi) of Durham. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl Tharrington and Kenneth Tharrington.
The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 7 until 8:30 pm at J. M. White Funeral Home.At other times they will be at the home.
Serving as active pall bearers will be Bruce Stainback, Glenn Fuller, Ronald Fuller, Ray Ranes, Bob Lloyd, Johnnie Ausborn, Danny Wilkerson, and Wayne Moss.Serving as honorary pall bearers will be all active and former fireman of the Henderson Fire Department, Deacons of New Sandy Creek Baptist Church, and all employees of J.
