Julia Boone Duke, age 88, a resident of Britthaven Nursing Home, and a former resident of 901 Harriett Street, died Friday, February 11, 2011, at Maria Parham Medical Center.Born on August 31, 1922 in Gibsonville, NC, she was the daughter of the late George Richard Boone and Maddie Jones Boone, and was the widow of Tom Duke, Jr. to whom she was married 63 years.
Mrs. Duke was formerly employed with Leggetts Department Store, and was a member of New Life Baptist Church, formerly Second Baptist Church, and the Pearl Faulkner Sunday School Class where she was the teacher for many years.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 pm in J. M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Frank Sossamon..Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
She is survived by one daughter, Jo Ann D. Hendricks and husband, Wayne of Henderson; two grandsons, James Stephen Robinson and wife, Nicki, of Henderson and Eric Hendricks of Durham; one granddaughter, Machelle F. Thomas and husband, Jason of Henderson; three great grandchildren, James William Robinson, Kendall Nichole Robinson, and Otelia Grace Thomas; one special niece, Dorothy Boone Inscoe of Spring Hope; and several other nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by one sister, Elene B. Tillett; three brothers, George Henry Boone, Fred Richard Boone, and Coley L. Boone; and one special niece, Jean Boone Phillips.
The family will receive friends Monday night from 7:00 until 8:30 pm at J. M. White Funeral Home.At other times they will be at the home of Jo Ann and Wayne Hendricks at 425 Lewis Williams Road.
Serving as active pall bearers will be Marvin Ross, III, Noel Faulkner, Scott Parrish, Keith Parrish, Doug Boone, Kevin Boone, Billy Perry,W. H. Parrish, Jr., Steve Hughes, and Charlie Edwards.
Arrangements are by J. M. White Funeral Home.
