Kenneth L. Fields, age 92, a resident of 1595 Spring Valley Lake Road, died Saturday, June 23, 2012, at Duke University Medical Center.Born in Vance County on October 8, 1919, he was the son of the late Floyd E, Fields and Geneva Ross Fields.He was a Veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II.He retired after 50 years as Plant Manager for the former Harriett & Henderson Yarns, ten years from Roses, and worked at Byrds Food Store.He was a lifetime member of St. Johns Episcopal Church where he was the first Lay Reader of the church and also the first Treasurer of the church.He was a member of the Henderson Lions Club where he served as a former President.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 pm at St. Johns Episcopal Church by the Rev. James Pahl.
Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Fletcher Fields, of the home; two sons, Ray Fields and wife, Frances, of Henderson and Bennie Fields of Kittrell; one daughter, Yvonne F. White and husband, T.L., of Henderson; one brother, Eddie Fields and wife, Louise, of Hertford, NC; one sister, Nellie F. Parrish of Hillsborough; nine grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his first wife, Frezene Thompson Fields; one daughter, Ellen Elizabeth Fields; three sisters, Frances F. Clark, Elsie F. Honeycutt, and Leigh F. Brummitt; one brother, Eugene Bud Fields; and one grandson, Bob Champion.
The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 7:00 until 8:30 pm at J. M. White Funeral Home At other times they will be at the home at 1595 Spring Valley Lake Road.
Serving as active pall bearers will be Scott Fields, Craig Fields, Brian White, Benjamin Fields, Scottie Fields, Steve Fletcher, Jan Fletcher, Gary Fletcher, and Al Bullock.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to St. Johns Episcopal Church, or the Ellen Elizabeth Fields Scholarship Fund C/O St. Johns Episcopal Church, PO Box 974, Henderson, NC 27536.
