Larry finished Henderson High School in 1962 and Danville Technical Institute is 1964. Following a brief hands-on job with Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co, he returned to Henderson and joined his father in the electric motor business. He managed the services division of the company until his semi-retirement in 2004 when Holland Industrial became an employee-owned ESOP.His philosophy of superior customer service and his penchant for turning out a quality product are carried on by the employee- owners of Holland Industrial to this day.
Larry loved family events, including cookouts, boating, and occasional trips to the family beach home at Emerald Isle.He spent many weekend afternoons on Kerr Lake boating with family and friends, often stopping on a sandy beach to cook hot dogs.During his lifetime, he enjoyed golfing, piloting his own plane and snow skiing. He designed his own pig-cooking trailer, and mastered the art of cooking a pig.He was always happy to oblige when someone had an occasion to celebrate.He was very proud of his "world famous" chili, his "PaPa" sauce passed down from his father, and other delicacies.He and his brother (and many companions along the way) were able to travel all across the US, Mexico, Canada, Europe, and South America. Up until his final days, he was both an eternal optimist, and loved to have a good laugh. He loved his family, his friends, and his dog Bailey, and all living creatures. He served others in his own quiet way, and was always happy to help someone in need, or to support a good cause. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Larry is survived by a daughter, Julie Holland Beazley and her husband Brian of Raleigh, and two sons; Larry Franklin Holland Jr. and Jonathan Ross Holland both of Henderson. He is also survived by seven grandchildren George (Chip) Humphries, Ashton Beazley and twins Paige and Christian Beazley; Larry (Trey) Holland, III; Jonathon Ross Holland II and Gavin Holland. Also surviving is his beloved companion Luz Maria Motola and her daughters Melissa Motola, and Alessandra Motola and her son Anthony Motola. Larry also leaves behind his brother, business partner, and best friend Charles Sidney Holland, Jr. and his sister-in-law Rita Martin Holland, and a number of nieces and nephews.Also surviving is his former wife and the mother of their children, Janice Craven Holland.
Larry was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Henderson NC where his funeral will be conducted on Friday, May 22 at 3 PM, officiated by the Reverend Terry Huffines and Reverend John Yount of Stovall United Methodist Church.Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
The family will receive friends Thursday night from 7 until 8:30 pm at J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times, they will be at the home.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Chip Humphries, Trey Holland, Jon Ross Holland, Chuck Holland, Tony Mills and Robert Hight.Honorary pallbearers will be all current and former employee owners of Holland Industrial, along with Neil Gillespie, Jim Morrison, Jack Finch, Joe Clark, Randy Hunt, Gene Martin, Anthony Motola and James Molina.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 114 Church Street, Henderson NC 27536; Stovall United Methodist Church, 109 US Highway 15 North, Stovall, NC 27582; or Ruin Creek Animal Protection Society, 165 US Highway 158 Bypass, Henderson, NC 27537.
