James Larry Trull, age 77, died April 6, 2018 at his home after several years of declining health.Born December 3, 1940 in Union County, he was the son of the late Robert C. Trull and Jenelle Sutton Trull.He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received a bachelors degree in marketing.
Mr. Trull worked for North Carolina National Bank (now Bank of America).He was in the areas of advertising and marketing.Later Mr. Trull joined the convenience store business in Henderson as vice president of Kwik-Pik which became Fast Fare.Later he became president of Fast Fare and several other convenience store chains before finally doing independent and joint consulting within a partnership called the Leadership Resource Group.
Mr. Trull was known around town for the creative walking sticks that he made by hand.He never wanted to use his hobby for profit and preferred giving his sticks away to people he thought would enjoy them.The gratitude expressed by the receiver was enough satisfaction for him.
He enjoyed outdoor exercise activities, the two favorites being jogging and hiking.He was a common sight jogging on Oxford Road for many years.And any opportunity to slip away to the mountains of North Carolina for a hike was usually taken.The Appalachian Trail was very close to his heart and mind.
Mr. Trull was involved in the community, especially with the less fortunate.He was on the ACTS board as well as the board for the Eckerd Camp until his health decline.
He is survived by his wife, Salie Smith Trull of the home; his son, Reynolds Trull and daughter-in-law Iryna Kolesnyk of Franklinton; his daughter, Kendall Trull Rogers and son-in-law Raymond Hill Rogers of Wilmington; four grandsons, Jackson Hill Rogers and Alston Holt Rogers of Wilmington, Luke Garrison Trull of Henderson, and Mark Robert Trull of Franklinton.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 14 at 3:00 pm at Leathers Chapel at First Baptist Church in Henderson by Dr. Marion D. Lark and Dr. Ronald S.
