KITTRELL-Leslie Lewis Stone, age 87, a resident of 691 Bobbitt Road, died Saturday, March 31, 2012 in a local nursing home.Born on January 28, 1925 in Warren County, he was the son of the late Ralph Edward Stone and Nellie Pearl Peoples Stone.He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II. Mr. Stone retired after thirty-years as a Supervisor from USDA AMS Tobacco Division.He was a member of Union Chapel United Methodist Church and attended Freedom Life Church Of God, and a member of the Zeb Vance Ruritan Club.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, at 11:00 am at Freedom Life Church Of God by the Rev. Jeff Prewer and the Rev. Dennis Gossett.Burial will follow in the Union Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Ennis Stone of the home; two sons, Allen Stone of Henderson and Charles Stone of Wilmington; four grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; two step-sons, Steve Atkins and Johnnie Atkins of Wake County; one step daughter, Joan Atkins of Wake County, Marie Dofflemyer of Elkton, Virginia, Grace Wingrove of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Frances Fuller of Kittrell.He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Charles Smith Stone; one brother, Lawrence Stone; and one sister, Rebecca S. Wright.
The family will receive friends Wednesday prior to the service from 9:30 until 11:00 am at Freedom Life Church Of God.At other times they will be at the home at 691 Bobbitt Road.
Serving as active pall bearers will be Durwood Wells, Roger Edwards, Bryant Bobbitt, Randy King, Steve Atkins, and Johnnie Atkins.Serving as honorary pall bearers will be members of the Zeb Vance Ruritan Club and Bryant Wright and Ronald Fuller.
