HENDERSON-Lily Mobley Phillips, age 89, died Sunday, September 29, 2013, in a local nursing home.Born in Pitt County on October 26, 1923, she was the daughter of the late William Thomas Mobley and Lillie Gertrude Evans Mobley, and was the widow of the Rev. John William Phillips.
Mrs. Phillips graduated summa cum laude from Campbell College and from Wake Forest University, and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.She was also a graduate of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Andover-Newton Theological School.She was a retired high school English teacher in the Vance County School System, and was a former President of Delta Kappa Gamma Teachers Association.She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she was a former Deacon and Sunday school teacher.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 pm at First Baptist Church by Dr. Ronald S. Cava. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens
She is survived by one daughter, Lisa Phillips Finch and husband, R. Kim Finch of Henderson; one son, Jonathan Phillips and wife, Larn-Huar Phillips of Wake Forest; one grandson, Thomas Finch; one granddaughter, Emma Finch both of Henderson; and her special caregivers, Marion Person, Sandra Bullock, Josephine Robinson, and Brenda Williams.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday prior to the service from 1 to 2 pm in the church parlor at First Baptist Church.
