HENDERSON- Margaret Cooke Jones, 82 of Graham Avenue, died July 10, 2026, at her home. Born April 29, 1944, in Granville County, she was the daughter of the late Lillie Mae Saunders Cooke and William Rand Cooke and was the widow of Herbert Earl Jones, Sr.
Margaret graduated from Oxford High School in 1962 as Class Salutatorian. After graduation, she attended Fuller’s Business School. She retired from Roses Stores where she worked as an executive assistant to several presidents and vice presidents for more than 33 years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Henderson until Covid. Margaret was an avid reader of all genres of books. She was known for her chocolate fudge, traveling with friends and simply as “Aunt Margaret” to those who knew and loved her.
A graveside service will be held July 13, 2026, at 11AM at Sunset Gardens Cemetery, and will be officiated by Rev. Will Breedlove.
Margaret is survived by her son, Timothy Wayne Ivey and wife, Martha “Pat” Gillam Ivey of Merry Hill; three grandsons, James Edward Berkley “Jeb” Ivey, Benjamin Jordan Ivey and Francis Gillam Ivey; her sister, Rebecca Weaver, and husband, Albert, of Franklinton; and numerous nieces and nephews that she loved.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her first son, James Edward Ivey at birth, and two brothers, William Cooke and Bobby Cooke of Oxford.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to her nieces Gail LaRue, Cindy Williams Harris and her great nephew Zac Salazar, as well as, her other caregivers Betheny Crews, April Lloyd, Linda Ann Pendergrass, and Debbie Robinson for their kind and compassionate care of Margaret that allowed her to live out her remaining years at home with laughter, love and kindness.
The family will receive friends and family following the service on July 13th at 11:00AM at Sunset Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Harriett Baptist Church Building Fund, 1354 Ruin Creek Road, Henderson, NC 27537.
