Margaret B. Wiggins
WINSTON-SALEM- Margaret Barnes Wiggins, 90, a resident of Homestead Hills, and a former resident of Henderson, NC, died Sunday, January 8, 2017.She was born on October 14, 1926 in Granville County to the late Lula Brooks Barnes and Leroy Barnes.
Margaret attended Oxford High School and graduated from Durham High School in 1945.She attended Womens College, now known as UNC-Greensboro.She worked in Davis Hospital in Statesville and in several medical offices in Vance County as well as Maria Parham Hospital as a Medical Technologist and Medical Assistant.
She was a member of Knollwood Baptist Church and a former member of First United Methodist Church in Henderson where she was a member of the Fellowship Class, served on the Administrative Board, and sang in the choir.She was a member of the Garden Study Club in Winston-Salem and a former member of the Woodland Garden Club in Henderson. Margaret loved gardening, arranging flowers, cooking and baking, and like most grandparents, spoiling her grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Knollwood Baptist Church on Sunday, January 15, 2017, at 2 pm by Dr. Bob Setzer.The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall.Graveside services will be held Monday at 2 pm at Hermon United Methodist Church by the Rev. Terry Huffines and Joe Long.
She is survived by her children, Tom Wiggins (Rachel) of Winston-Salem and Roy Wiggins (Tina) of Charlotte; three grandchildren, Walter Wiggins (Sarah), Douglas Wiggins, and Lauren Wiggins; and one great grandson, Ian Wiggins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Julius Thomas "Jack" Wiggins, Jr.; and two sisters, Mae Frances Barnes and Lizzie Julia Barnes.
The family will receive friends on Monday prior to the graveside service from 12:30 until 1:30 pm at J. M. White Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to Crisis Control Ministries, 200 10th Street E, Winston-Salem, NC2710l, Winston-Salem Rescue Mission, 718 N. Trade Street, Winston-Salem, NC27101, or to Knollwood Baptist Church, 330 Knollwood Street, Winston-Salem, NC27104.
