Marie M. Snediker, (Nanny), age 95 of Oak Grove Farm, 1190 Horseshoe Bend Rd.,
Henderson, quietly passed away at home on Wednesday, November 3, 2010, after a lengthy
illness. Marie was born in the Bronx, NY, July 22, 1915 and was the daughter of the late George W. Russell Sr. and Loretta Seitz Russell of Mt. Vernon, NY. Marie was the loving wife of the lateLawrence J. Snediker, who died in 1989. She had a sister, Loretta A. Russell, and a brother, George W. Russell Jr., who preceded her in death. Marie is survived by her daughter, BarbaraAnn Vaeth and her husband, James, of Henderson, whom she resided with, and sons Lawrence R. Snediker and his wife Nancy of South Salem, NY, and George L. Snediker and his wife, Jill, ofPhoenix, MD. She also leaves behind 21 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great grand children, and her care givers. Marie was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who was loved by all who knew her.
Marie and her husband, Lawrence, began their married life in Bronx, NY, on August 31, 1935 and in 1955 they moved to Valhalla, NY, in Westchester County. When her youngest child, George, was in high school Marie began a professional career as a typist for General Precision Labs in Pleasantville, NY, and later managed the Secretarial Services Department for IBM in their Armonk, NY, Headquarters. In the summer of 1980 Marie and Lawrence relocated to Clinton, NJ, to be closer to their daughter, Barbara, and her family. Upon the untimely death of Lawrence, her beloved husband of 55 years, Marie then made her home with Barbara and her family in the spring of 1989 in Lebanon, NJ. In 1992 the family relocated to Oak Grove Farm in Henderson, NC.
Marie loved her farm life and was a devoted member of St. James Roman Catholic Church.
She was an accomplished pianist, fabulous cook, prolific letter writer, and a positive person who brought out the best in everyone she met. Marie loved her faith, lived an exemplary life, and can still be reached in her new heavenly home in prayer.
Funeral arrangements will be handled by J. M. White Funeral Home of Henderson. Marie will be taken to her home at 1190 Horseshoe Bend Rd where the family will be receiving friends at her Horseshoe Bend Road residence on Thursday, November 4th, and Friday, November 5th, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 6th, at St. James Catholic Church 3275 U.S. Hwy 158 By Pass, Henderson, NC 27537 with the Rev. William Upah officiating.
Pallbearers will be James Lewis Jr., Lawrence Snediker, Jonathan Lewis, George Snediker,
Brett Lewis, John Snediker, Gerrett Snediker, and Mico Adic. Burial will be in the St. James
Church Cemetery beside her beloved husband. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may bemade to St. James Catholic Church, Henderson, NC, or to St. Benedict Abbey, 252 Still River Rd., PO Box 67, Still River, MA 01467 in memory of Marie M. Snediker.
