OXFORD-Marion Joseph Bova’, age 90, a resident of 3045 Davis Chapel Road, died Wednesday, March 06, 2013, at Meadowview Terrace in Clarksville, Va. after a long illness.Joe was born on April 10, 1922 in Redhouse, NY and was the son of the late Joseph and Amanda Grey Bova’.He was one of nine children.
Serving in the United States Army from 1940-1945, he was stationed at Schofield Barracks on Oahu, Hawaii.He survived the attack on Pearl Harbor on Sunday Dec. 7th, 1941 and later joined the 6th US Army Rangers where he served in the Southwest Pacific Theatre of War, attaining the rank of Sergeant.
After returning to the United States he met and married his beloved wife, Florence Ann Swift, in September of 1944.
Mr. Bova was a member of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints in Henderson.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 1:00 PM at The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints by President Jim Clark.Graveside services with Military Honors will follow at 3:00 PM in Stovall Memorial Cemetery in Stovall, NC.
Joe was predeceased by his wife Florence who passed in 1999.He lived with his daughter Patty and son-in-law Bill Elliott until November 2012 at which time he entered the nursing home.
He is survived by his son, David Charles Bova’ of Bullock, his daughter Patty Bova’ Elliottand beloved son-in-law Bill Elliott of Grassy Creek; two grandsons, William Channing Elliott, Jr. and Charles Alexander Beauvais Elliott.He is also survived by his great-grandson William Channing Elliott, III, fondly known as Liam. Liam is the son of Channing and Geniann Elliott of Stovall.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 until 1:00 PM at The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints.
