Marjorie Brooks Johnson

ROCKY MOUNT-Marjorie Brooks Johnson, 99, a resident of Arthur Circle, died Monday, June 13, 2022, at her home surrounded by her family. Born April 17, 1923 in Chatham County, she was the daughter of the late Mollie Maude Thomas Brooks and Claude Dewitt Brooks. Marjorie was retired from Belk in Henderson where she worked as a buyer. She was a member of Dortches Baptist Church and formerly a member of West End Baptist Church in Henderson. A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 18, 2022 at noon at Dortches Baptist Church by Rev. Rick Gaskins. Burial will follow at 3:30 PM in Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Henderson. Marjorie is survived by two daughters, Mollie Marjorie Johnson of Asheboro and Dolores Jennings Jones of Rocky Mount; four grandchildren, Christopher Lee Terrell, Dolores Jennings “D.J” Firestone, Marjorie Molly Shuffler and Michael Adam Shuffler; and five great-grandchildren, Caroline Brook Terrell, Jennings Amon Firestone, Cooper Lee Terrell, Bristoe Elijah Brown and Case Brooks Shuffler. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Jennings J. “Red” Johnson and seven siblings. The family will receive friends prior to the service at Dortches Baptist Church from 11:00 AM until noon. Serving as active pallbearers will be Cooper Terrell, Amon Firestone, Adam Shuffler, Lester Ellen, Mike Taylor, and Gordon Ezzell. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Clark Conner and Larry Lemons. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Dortches Baptist Church, 4776 Dortches Blvd., Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
