OXFORD-Mary Clifford Abbott, age 85, a resident of Hicksboro Road, died Sunday, January 7, 2024 at her home. Born March 25, 1938 in Vance Co, she was the daughter of the late Mahlon James Clifford and Louise Eastwood Clifford and was the widow of James Theodore “Dinky” Abbott. She was a member of Marrows Chapel Methodist Church. Mary was a former secretary at Vance County Social Services and Office Manager at True-Value Hardware. A graveside service will be held Thursday at 2:00 PM at Marrows Chapel Methodist Church by the Rev. Johnny Yount. She is survived by one daughter, Angela A. Norwood (Danny) of Oxford; one son, James “Jay” Abbott, Jr. (Sheila) of Port Republic, Maryland; grandchildren, Beth Haithcock (Chad), Amanda Williams (Jerrol), Jocelyn Abbott, and Ethan Abbott; great grandchildren, Austin Haithcock, Avery Haithcock, and Zack Williams; her sister-in-law, Bobbi Clifford; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one sister, Ann Clifford Langston; and two brothers, Mahlon J. Clifford Jr. and John Albert Clifford. The family will receive friends following the service at Marrows Chapel Methodist Church. At other times they will be at her home.
