Mrs. Mary Rodgers Eskew, 100, formerly of Greenville, SC, died Monday, July 8, 2013, in Oxford, NC, where she had resided since December, 2006.
She was the wife of the late Dewitt Talmadge Eskew, who passed away on May 5, 1960.
Born August 3, 1912, in Pelzer, SC, Mary was the daughter of the late Perry and Eula Gambrell Rodgers.
She was predeceased by two sons, Rodger Isbell Eskew and Captain Samuel Perry Eskew, USAF.
Mrs. Eskew is survived by her son, Jerry Eskew and wife, Myra, of Greenville; her daughter, Etrulia Trudy Eskew Williams and husband, Dave, of Oxford, NC; seven grandchildren, Fran Eskew Jordan and husband, Keith; Andy Eskew and wife, Stacy; Ellis Eskew; David Eskew and wife, Mary; Lee Williams; Elizabeth Williams Spence and husband, Scott; and Christian Causby; three great grandchildren, Will Eskew, Skyler Spence, and Anna Eskew; two daughters-in-law, Sallie Eskew and Carol Eskew Causby; and by one niece and two nephews.
At age 13, Mrs. Eskew accepted the Lord as her Savior.She was a devoted Christian who served her Lord by ministering to others and was a faithful member of Eastlan Baptist Church, Greenville, SC.While living in Oxford she attended Oxford Baptist Church.She was a Gold Star Mother, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Eastern Star and Baptist Woman’s Association.
Mrs. Eskew graduated from the Greenville General Hospital School of Nursing as an LPN.She worked with the Greenville Hospital System, Greenville Dental Clinic, and retired from the Greenville Health Department.
A memorial service, with the Rev. Dr. Jimmy Harley officiating, will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, July 13, at The Mackey Mortuary, Century Drive, with visitation following the service.Interment will be at Greenville Memorial Gardens.
