Mary Janice "Jan" Strause

Mary Janice Jan Gardner Strause, age 70, a resident of 648 Lakeview Drive, died Tuesday, July 09, 2013 at her home.Born and raised in Oak Ridge, NC on September 12, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Harry Calvin Gardner and Annie Lee Westmoreland.Jan graduated from East Carolina University.Prior to her marriage she was a schoolteacher in the Norfolk City School System.She was a member of The Church of The Holy Innocents.
A memorial service will be held Friday at 11:00 am at The Church Of The Holy Innocents by the Rev. Donald Lowry.Inurnment will follow in the columbarium wall of The Church Of The Holy Innocents.
She is survived by her husband, Henry McDaniel Strause of the home; a daughter, VirginiaStrause Brown and husband Christopher Karl Brown of Huntersville, NC; a son, Henry McDaniel Mac Strause and wife Rosemary Michel Strause of Winston Salem; five grandchildren- Anna Gardner Brown, Ruth Elisabeth Brown, Maria Isabella Strause, Elena-Rose Strause, and William Henry Brown; a sister, Shirley Gardner Christopher of Burlington and a brother, Alvin Lester Pete Gardner of High Point. She was cared for by Patricia Mae Abbott for the last sixteen years of her life.
The family will receive friends Thursday night from 6:00 PM till 9:00 PM at the home, 648 Lakeview Drive.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Memorial Fund C/O The Church Of The Holy Innocents, 210 South Chestnut Street, Henderson, NC 27536.
