Mary Lula Campbell Pugh Bowen, age 81, a resident of 6333 Raleigh Road, went home to be with our Lord on Saturday, November 10, 2012, at Maria Parham Medical Center.Born on March 12, 1931 in Mecklenburg County, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late William Hammett Campbell and Addie Belle Newton Campbell.She was a long time employee of the former South Henderson Cotton Mill, and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Kittrell and the Senior Adult Sunday School Class. Mrs. Bowen was an avid fisher and could be seen most any time sitting by the pond with her fishing pole.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00 PM at New Hope Baptist Church by the Pastor Henry Abbott.Burial will follow in Mountain Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Granville County.
She is survived by her children, Brenda P. Wright and husband, Randy, Sandra Joanne Williams and husband, Bud, Curtis Pugh and wife, Julia, Joseph Kenny Bowen, Jr. and wife Cyndi, Renee B. Carroll; ten grandchildren, Chuck Strother, Elizabeth Smith-Gales, Bobbi Squires, Curtis Curt Pugh, April Clayton, Joseph Matt Bowen, III, Bryan Bowen, Kellie Bowen, Nolan Bowen, Alexes Carroll; eight great grandchildren, Jonathan, Brittany and Joshua Strother, EJ and Meagan Smith, Christa Gales, and Johnny and Danny Clayton; two sisters, Hazel Thomas and Joyce Grant and husband, Roy; one brother-in-law, Richard Bowen and wife, Peggy; and two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Griffin, and Mary Helen Campbell; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Keister Bowen, Sr.; one daughter, Doris Angayle Pugh; two brothers, Melvin and Billy Campbell; one sister, Estelle Campbell Hobgood; and one granddaughter, Tracey Renee Strother; and one great granddaughter, KayLeigh Jean Bowen.
The family will receive friends Sunday night from 7:00 until 8:30 PM at J. M. White Funeral Home.At other times they will be at the home of Joanne and Bud Williams at 6333 Raleigh Road, Kittrell, NC.
Serving as active pall bearers will be Melvin Campbell, Jr., Albert Strickland, Scott Gales, Eddie Smith, Jr., William Hobgood, and Wade Thomas.
