OXFORD- Mary London Cobb McGhee, 91 of Forrest Road, died Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at a local nursing home. Born May 8, 1932 in Warren County, she was the daughter of the late Abner Thomas Cobb and Annie Lavinvia London Cobb. She worked at Maria Parham Health in the business office, was a hostess for Amtrack train service and retired from Roses Stores. Mary was a member of Oxford Baptist Church where she was active in the W.M.U. She was a former member of the Dashing Reds Red Hat Society and enjoyed participation in the Thornton Library Book Club. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at Union Chapel Church of Kittrell by Rev. Radford Frazier and Dr. Brett Pardue. Mary is survived by her son, Robert Thomas McGhee of Kittrell; two sisters, Edith C. Owen of Raleigh and Patricia C. Finch of Wilson; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Brian Mitchell McGhee and George Rufus McGhee, Jr.; four sisters, Lucille C. Cole, Elizabeth C. Ellington, Katherine C. Gooch and Nell C. Hodge Wiggins; and two brothers, Abner Bryant Cobb and James Earl Cobb. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Granville County Senior Center, PO Box 1287, Oxford, NC 27565 or Oxford Baptist Church, 147 Main St, Oxford, NC 27565 for the music ministry. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall of Union Chapel.
