Mary Nell Breedlove Hight, age 54, a resident of 7101 Dexter Road, beloved wife and mother, passed away Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Duke Homecare and Hospice Hock Family Pavilion in Durham. She was a native of Granville County and was the daughter of the late Joe Brown Breedlove and Caroline Mayes Breedlove.Mary Nell graduated high school from Vance Academy in Henderson in 1976.She received her Bachelor of Music Education and Vocal Performance in 1980 from Meredith College, where she graduated Cum Laude.Growing up, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Oxford, where she later taught the Childrens Choirs and was the first female Chairman of the Board of Trustees.She is a current member of the First United Methodist Church of Henderson, where she sang in the choir. Over the years, Mary Nell taught and performed music in the community as well as throughout the state.Besides her passion of music, she loved to ride horses and care for her many animals.Mary Nell courageously fought brain cancer for seven years. She donated her body to Science Care in hopes of helping others and finding a cure for brain cancer.
Memorial services will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 am at the First United Methodist Church of Henderson by the Rev. George Speake and the Rev. John Yount.
Mary Nell is survived by her husband of 34 years, Ralph Benton Hight Jr. and her only child,Mary Royall Hight; her sister in-law and husband, Ellen and Don Clapp of Raleigh; her brother in-law, Wesley Lee Hight Sr. of Henderson and his children, Wesley and Branson Hight; and her aunt, Elizabeth BrentMayes Williford of Oxford. She was preceded in death by her older brother, John Calvin (Jack)Breedlove
The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 7:00 until 8:30pm at the J.M. White Funeral Home in Henderson. At other times they will be at the home.
