OXFORD-Mattie Sue Stegall Newell, age 63, a resident of 135 Crescent Drive, Oxford, died Sunday, November 20, 2011, at Maria Parham Medical Center.Born in Mecklenburg County, Virginia, on April 24, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Grover Cleveland Stegall, Sr. and Ola Elizabeth Sis Short Stegall.
Mrs. Newell was retired from Harriett & Henderson, Yarns, Inc. and was also a former waitress at the Waffle and Pancake House.She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Oxford.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:00 pmat Grace Baptist Church in Oxford by the Rev. Cecil Newton.Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Warrenton.
She is survived by one son, Martin Larue Vaughan, III of Henderson; two daughters, Tammy Sue Brake West and husband, Bobby of Townsville and Melissa Ann Brake Satterwhite and husband, James of Henderson; three brothers, James Michael Stegall of Oxford, Grover Cleveland Stegall, II and Jerry Wayne Stegall both of Henderson; three sisters, Stella Mosley of Oxford, Brenda Faye Strother of Medera, California, and Donna S. Bowes of Henderson; ten grandchildren, Alicia Lee-Lee Williamson and husband, Roy, James Toot Satterwhite, Jr., Christopher Andrew Brake Ruppert and wife, Allison, Donald Bro-Bro Bowes, Jr., Bobby Scooter West, III and wife, Becca, Michelle Shelly Satterwhite, Amber Nuk-Nuk West, Courtney West, Heather Satterwhite, and Noah Vaughan; and three great grandchildren, Layla Satterwhite, Madison Satterwhite, and Roy Williamson, Jr.She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Fletcher Newell.
The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 7:00 until 8:30 pm at J. M. White Funeral Home.At other times they will be at the home of Tammy West at418 Townsville Landing Road.
Serving as active pall bearers will be Bobby West, III, James Satterwhite, Jr., Roy Williamson,
Johnathan West, Cory Toliver, Jack Newell, Scott Stegall, and Jay Woodlief.
Arrangements are by J. M. White Funeral Home.
