HENDERSON-Melody Respess Shearin, 56, a resident of Henderson, died on Friday, May 7, 2021 at VCU in Richmond, Va. Born on April 30, 1965 in Beaufort, she was the daughter of the late Jane Lassiter Respess. Melody attended The Church of The Holy Innocents. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 pm in the J. M. White Funeral Home Chapel by Father Don Lowry and Rev. Johnny Yount. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens. She is survived by her husband, Eddie S. Shearin of the home; one daughter, Courtney Michelle Abbott (Darrin Hawke) of Henderson; one step-granddaughter, Taylor Hawke; one sister Joyce Respess (Brooke) of Bend, Oregon; three brothers, Langley Respess (Diane) of Atlanta, GA, Jimmy Respess (Beth) of St. Simons Island, GA, and Mark Respess (Kim) of Greenville SC; three nieces, Lilly, Lucy, and Ginger; and two nephews, Grady and James. The family will receive friends on Wednesday prior to the service from 1:00 until 2:00 pm at J. M. White Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers will be Jim Respess, Mark Respess, Langley Respess, Mitch Keaton, Art Hughes, Mark Richardson and Kendall Lovings. Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association, PO Box 7023, Merrifield, Virginia 22116. Attendees at both the funeral and visitation are asked to wear an appropriate face covering and practice social distancing.
