HENDERSON- George Michael "Mike" Dawson, 58, of 221 Zolicoffer Ave, died Thursday, December 28, 2017, at Maria Parham Health.Born in Bertie County on February 17, 1959, he was the son of the late George Dawson and Nell White Dawson.Mike was a well respected math teacher at Kerr-Vance Academy where he worked for over 30 years.He coached various sports at Kerr-Vance Academy and was a mentor to every student he met.If the sun was shining he was enjoying a round of golf.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday at 2:00 PM in the Crawford Gymtorium at KVA by Rev. Tammy Ayscue.
He is survived by his daughter, Lillian D. King and husband Lin of Henderson; four grandchildren, Leayah King, Lane Ross, Josh Ross and Michelle King; three sisters, Vicky D. White and Martha D. Harrison of Askewville, and Brenda Dawson of Aulander; a brother, Craig Dawson of Windsor; and Mike and Wanda Bullard.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Betsy Byrum and two brothers, Tommy Dawson and Ricky Dawson.
The family will receive friends following the service at KVA; at other times they will be at the home of Mike and Wanda Bullard, 121 Sundown Cr. Manson, NC 27553.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Bill Eubanks, Sam Daniels, John Woolard, Cliff Lacey, Joey Towe, Tom Haverkampf and The Golf Group at Kerr Lake Country Club.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the KVA Development Fund, 700 Vance Academy Road, Henderson, NC 27537.
