HENDERSON-Mildred Ellen Smith Edwards, 84, a resident of Kerr Lake Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, and a former resident of Moss Stock Farm Road in Kittrell, died Sunday, February 16, 2014, at Maria Parham Medical Center.Born in Vance County on September 12, 1929, she was the daughter of the late William Jethro Smith and Lucille Andrews Smith.Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 pm in the J. M. White Funeral Home Chapel by Major & Mrs. Daniel Turner.Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
She is survived by one daughter, Wendy E. Grissom of Kittrell; four grandchildren, Shannon Wilson, Kristy Horton, Beverly Sanders, and Bobby Sanders; nine great grandchildren; two sisters, Mattie Hendricks of Henderson and Brenda Turner ofClear Spring, Md; and one brother, Robert Smith of Stoneville,NC.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Newcomb Edwards; one son, Ronald Newcomb Edwards; five sisters, Alma Moss, Irene Bowen, Mary Lee Edwards, Ruth Moorefield, and Linda Gupton; and two brothers, W. J. Smith and David Smith.
The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 7 until 8:30 pm at J. M. White Funeral Home.At other times they will be at the home of Wendy and Donnie Grissom at 106 Moss Stock Farm.
Serving as active pall bearers will be Wayne Hendricks, Terry Hendricks, Jason Wilson, and Joseph Wilson.
