HENDERSON- Mildred Viverette Penny, 86, formerly of Southern Avenue, died Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at ECU Health Roanoke- Chowan Hospital. Born August 25, 1939 in Wake County, she was the daughter of the late Peraline Holt Outland and Mossan Outland and was the widow of Joseph Earl Penny. Mrs. Penny was a member of South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was an avid baker and loved to shop. Her late husband Earl spoiled her their entire married life and she only worked to interact with customers and earn traveling and gambling money.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 4, 2026 at 3:00 P.M. in the chapel of J.M. White Funeral Home by Rev. Mark Richardson. Entombment will follow at Sunset Gardens.
Mrs. Penny is survived by her son, Timothy Warren Viverette (Stephanie) of Durham; seven grandchildren, Nikki Ward (Justin), Courtney Perkinson (Scott), T. J. Viverette, Dimitri Viverette (Dorothy), Morgan Penny (Todd), Joseph Penny (Claire) and Simone Viverette; and eight great grandchildren, Emma Ward, Kolbie Perkinson, Jr. Perkinson, Kolton Perkinson, Drake Perkinson, Paisley Perkinson, Drake Viverette and Daisy Viverette.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Randall Penny and a brother, Billy Outland.
The family will receive friends prior to the service on Sunday beginning at 2:00 P.M. at J.M. White Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Joseph Penny, Justin Ward, Dimitri Viverette, T. J. Viverette, Larry Penny and Rick Hedman.
The family would like to extend appreciation to Sherri Ryan for her care and dedication over the past several years.
