HENDERSON-Opal Lee Harris Watkins, age 88, a former resident of Willowood Drive, died Monday, December 19, 2016, in a local nursing home.Born on September 12, 1928 in Surry County, she was the daughter of the late John Edgar Harris and Lorene Holbrook Harris, and was the widow of Samuel Barker Watkins, Jr.
Mrs. Watkins was a member of South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church, the Living By Faith Sunday School Class, and the Morning Circle.
Graveside services will be held Thursday at 11:00 AM at Sunset Gardens by the Rev. Frank Sossamon.
She is survived by one daughter, Brenda W. Peoples of Rocky Mount; two sons, Samuel"Sammy" Barker Watkins, III and Ronald "Ronnie" Watkins of Henderson; one brother, Kenneth Harris of Mt. Airy, six grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings.
The family will receive friends on Thursday at Sunset Gardens following the service.. At other times they will be at the homes of Rocky and Kelly Ayscue, 400 Clements Road, Henderson and Chris and Lindsy Dethmers, 950 Townsville Landing Road, Henderson.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church Building Fund, 905 Americal Road, Henderson, NC27537.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Kerr Lake Nursing and Reh. Center, and especially Lynn, Wendy, Katina, and Rachel, for their compassionate and loving care given to our mom.
