LONGWOOD, FL-Oveida Blanche Ellis Mayo of Longwood, FL; formerly of Meadow Lane in Henderson, NC,died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, December 22, 2015. Born in Vance County on July 23, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Wise Ellis and Verlie Blanche Weldon Ellis and was the widow of Dr. Joseph Dixon Mayo, Jr. of Henderson, N.C.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Henderson, was an avid bridge player and enjoyed working in her beautiful rose garden which is still admired by many from the Henderson Country Club Golf Course.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at 2 pm at Elmwood Cemetery by the Rev. Terry Huffines.
She is survived by her son Joseph Dixon Mayo, III of Asheville, N.C; daughter, Verlie Mayo Norris of Longwood, FL.; grandchildren Philip Franklin Norris of Lexington, KY and Oveida Norris Kedia of Rochester, Michigan; five great grandchildren, Blaine Austin Norris,Brody Dixon Norris,Brayden Cole Norris of Lexington, KY, andAshwin Clark Kedia, and Verlie Leena Kedia of Rochester, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the general fund of the First United Methodist Church, 114 Church Street, Henderson, NC27536.
