HENDERSON-Perry Rooker Hayes, 83, of 1061 Tollie Weldon Road, died Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at his home.Born in Franklin County on February 19, 1930, he was the son of the late David Newell Hayes and Onnie Thomas Edwards, and was the widower of Elizabeth Brewer Hayes.He was a retired assistant manager at Harriett & Henderson Yarns, Inc. where he worked for more than thirty years, and was a member of Blessed Hope Baptist Church.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 7, at 4:00 PM in the J. M. White Funeral Home Chapel by Lay Minister Wayne Miller.
He is survived by his sisters, Lois H. Major of Henderson and Mary H. Young of Raleigh, his niece and caregiver, Dava M. Kopp and husband, Wayne Kopp; his cousins, who were his best friends, J. H. Smith and Hill Smith; his nephews, Todd Owens and wife, Cindy, and Jonathan Owens and wife, Mindy; and many other nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Sunday prior to the service from 3:00 until 4:00 PM at J. M. White Funeral Home.At other times they will be at his home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o James Bowen, 1307 Walter Bowen Road, Henderson, NC27537.
The family is extremely grateful to his Hospice workers, Dorothy, Monica, Nicky, and many others for their care and comfort with which they embraced Perry. Also a special thanks to his Hospice volunteer, Wayne Miller.
