SWANSBORO-Peter John Wedemann, of Swansboro, NC died Sunday August 25, 2013, at UNC Memorial Hospital, Chapel Hill, NC.A memorial service was held on August 31, 2013 11:00 am at Cape Carteret Presbyterian Church, 100 Yaupon Drive Cape Carteret, NC 28584 with the Reverend Ben Borrows officiating.Graveside services with Military Honors will be held Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Elmwood Cemetery in Henderson conducted by Dr. Marion D. Lark.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sylvia Ann Hoyle Wedemann, a daughter, Courtney W. Silverthorne (Ray) of Vanceboro, NC, a son, Peter Christian Wedemann (Bobbie) of Hubert, NC, twin granddaughters Christen M. and Ashley C. Wedemann of Hubert, NC.He is also survived by two sisters Virginia Wood (Jim) of Oklahoma and Elizabeth Beckwith (Rod) of Virginia as well as an aunt, nieces and a nephew.
Peter was born in New York, NY on October 5, 1943, the son of the late Erwin and Doris Wedemann, and was raised in Ridgewood, New Jersey.He graduated from Admiral Farragut Military Academy and Leister Junior College.Pete served in the United States Army in Army Intelligence during the Vietnam War.
Peter continued in the family business of international freight forwarding in New York City and most recently for SOS Global Express in New Bern, NC.
Peter was an active member of Cape Carteret Presbyterian Church where he had served as an elder.Poppa Pete thoroughly enjoyed sharing his pew with his two granddaughters.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Onslow Memorial Hospitals trauma team for their expert care.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cape Carteret Presbyterian Church.
