RALEIGH- Phillip Wayne Ellington Sr., 77, of Raleigh, NC, passed away on April 29, 2025. Born on July 20, 1947 in Vance County, he was the son of the late Sally Bailey Ellington and J. B. Ellington. Phillip lived a vibrant and joyful life, bringing laughter and energy to all who knew him. Phillip proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1971, earning an honorable discharge for his dedication and service. A man of many talents, he built a successful career in the field of computer information systems, culminating in his retirement from the City of Raleigh in 2019. Phillip married the love of his life, Catherine Ayscue Ellington, on July 18, 1967, and together they built a family centered on love and laughter. He was a devoted father to Phillip Wayne Ellington Jr., who is married to Amanda Ellington, and Dana Annette Ellington, who is married to Chip Jurgensen. His grandchildren, Zachary Ellington, Cade Ellington, Aiden Lincoln, and Adrienne Lincoln, were his pride and joy. Known for his friendly demeanor, sharp wit, and knack for being the life of the party, Phillip had an uncanny ability to bring smiles to everyone around him. He had a deep love for disco music, a strong sense of patriotism, and an infectious zest for life. Phillip leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories and will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 7, 2025 from 12:00 to 1:30 PM at J. M. White Funeral Home. Graveside funeral services with Military Honors will follow at 2:00 PM at Sunset Gardens, by the Reverend Johnny Yount.
