HENDERSON-Preston Hoyle Edwards, 92, of 1845 Weldon’s Mill Road, passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at Maria Parham Health.Born in Vance County on June 8, 1926, he was the son of the late Claude Vincent Edwards and Mary Hoyle Edwards.He was a Veteran of the United States Army serving in WWII.He was retired, having farmed tobacco for over 50 years.Preston was a lifelong member of New Sandy Creek Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, on the buildings and grounds committee, the cemetery committee and as the church secretary for over 60 years.Funeral services will be held at New Sandy Creek Baptist Church on Monday, April 15, 2019 at 11:00 AM by Rev. Tim Burgess and Rev. James P. Harris.Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his daughter, Patricia E. Pegram and husband, Julian of Youngsville; his son, Kenny Edwards and wife, Shay of Winston-Salem; three granddaughters, Sadie Pegram, Abbey Edwards, and Ansley Edwards; and his faithful companion, "Bojangles."
He was preceded in death by his wife, Maurine Harris Edwards; three brothers, James Edwards, Roger Edwards and Bill Edwards; and three sisters, Mabel Harsher, Alma Rodeheaver and Elsie Whitfield.
The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall of New Sandy Creek Baptist Church and at other times at the home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Billy Edwards, Larry Rodeheaver, Ed Tucker, A.D. Pleasants, Maurice Pleasants, William Burnette, Randy Ayscue and Evan Tucker.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Sandy Creek Baptist Church Family Life Center Fund, 1699 Weldon’s Mill Road, Henderson, NC 27537.
