HENDERSON-Rachel Stainback Ellis, age 89, a resident of 2005 Oakland Avenue, died Friday, February 17, 2012, at her home.Born on March 21, 1922 in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Turner Gilliam Stainback and Rose Spain Stainback.She was retired after over 30 years from the former Peoples Bank and Trust Co., now RBC Centura, as Assistant Vice-President.She was a member of First Congregational Christian Church where she served on various boards and committees.Mrs. Ellis was a long time volunteer at Maria Parham Medical Center and was a member of the Vance County Nursing Home Advisory Committee.
A memorial service will be held Monday at 11:00 AM in the J. M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. George Williams and the Rev. Marshall Neathery.A private entombment will be held at Sunset Gardens.
She is survived by one son, Warner Carson Ellis, Jr. of Henderson; one daughter, Rachel Ellis Polly Mattox and husband, Jerry of Raleigh; one sister, Claude S. Sharpe of Hopewell, Virginia; three granddaughters, Kelly Mattox Stougaard and husband, Billy of Youngsville, Amber Mattox Rumsey and husband, Ian of Raleigh, and Sara Ellis Thompson of Rocky Mount; three sisters-in-law, Sherene B. Stainback, Barbara L. Stainback, and Peggy W. Ellis all of Henderson; and several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by two sisters Betty S. Cobb and Rosa Lee S. Parks and two brothers James Robert Stainback, Sr. and Turner Gilliam Stainback Jr.
The family will receive friends at the home at 2005 Oakland Avenue.
The family would like to thank the Amedisys Hospice caregivers, Martha Stainback, Flo Wilson and Nikki Magbie.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 8300 Health Park Suite #10, Raleigh, NC 27615.
