Rachel was retired from W. H. Phillips & Co. and was a member of West End Baptist Church where she was a member of the Betsy TutenSunday School Class, the Katie Oakley WMU Group, and was a member of the choir for almost 30 years.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 4, 2014, at 2 pm at West End Baptist Church by the Rev. Ralph McGowan.Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
She is survived by her husband, Braxton Poythress of the home; one daughter, Cathy P. Musgrave and husband, John of Pikeville; one son Ron Poythress and wife, Mary Ann of Raleigh;four sisters, Sarah R. Poythress and husband, Dale of Henderson, Carolyn R. Kearney and husband, Tom of Raleigh, Jean B. West and husband, Bill "W.H." of Oxford, and Maxine R. Kearney of Oviedo, Florida;five grandchildren, Jason Musgrave and wife Christy, Taylor Musgrave, Rachel Poythress, Rebecca Walker, and Robert Walker; one great grandson, Braxton Musgrave; and a dear special friend Decie Harper.
The family will receive friends prior to the service on Thursday from 12:30 until 2 pm at West End Baptist Church.At other times they will be at the home at 1513 Peace Street.
Serving as active pall bearers will be grandsons, Jason Musgrave, Taylor Musgrave, Robert Walker, and her nephews, Steve Poythress, Ricky Poythress, Brian Roberson, Keith West, Scott West, Wayne Kearney, Chris Roberson, and Bruce Stainback.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the West End Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 619 Dabney Drive, Henderson, NC27536.
Among Rachels most joyous moments was spending time in her home surrounded by her family and friends.She loved preparing meals as a way to express her love and devotion to her family
